How do I set up
my Barbapapa?
Remove all contents from the Barbapapa Grass Garden or Pot Belly Garden. You will find two peat pucks and a packet of grass seeds inside. How do I grow my Barbapapa?Place the peat pucks inside the planter and add warm water halfway up the planter bowl. Let it sit five minutes to soften the dried peat. Take a fork and break up the peat pucks. Let it sit another five minutes to soften further, stir the peat soil, and add your seeds according to package directions. What makes the Barbapapa grow? The magic of Barbapapa is the magic of mother nature. There is nothing “alive” or “automatic” about Barbapapa. The Barbapapa is just a clever planter for starting grass (in the Barbapapa Grass Garden) or flower seeds (in the Barbapapa Pot Belly Garden). It simply contains seeds and a dried potting mixture. How long does it take to grow? In general, seeds will germinate and sprout in 2 weeks for grass and 4 weeks for flowers approximately. Keep your Barbapapa moist and warm during that time and keep the planter in sunlight. Plants should be good size in 2 weeks (grass garden) and 3-4 weeks for flowers (pot belly garden). What do I do if my Barbapapa is not growing? Just like in nature many factors play into seeds successfully germinating. At first, the two most important factors are warmth and water. It is very important that your Barbapapa is placed in an environment with a temperature of 60 degrees or warmer (actually warmer is better, ideally 70 to 80 degrees is OK). Warmth triggers the seeds to start to germinate as if it is spring. If your Barbapapa dries out, then the delicate germination process may be disrupted. Likewise, you should water judiciously, so that soil is just moist to the touch. Over-watering can also disrupt the germination process. If after significant time, your Barbapapa has not sprouted, you can add more seeds and try again. How much Sunlight does my Barbapapa need? Once the seedling appears above the soil’s surface, your Barbapapa should receive two to four hours of good sunlight each day. Before the seedling appears, it is not necessary to have full sunlight. How much water does my Barbapapa need? The thirsty Barbapapa drinks a lot. Water it every day if the peat soil is dry to the touch. Do not drown the Barbapapa, however. How long can my Barbapapa last? Your Barbapapa can last up to 6 weeks (Grass Garden) or 2-4 months (Pot BellyGarden), if you care for it. For the Barbapapa Grass Garden, you may trim the grass and it will continue to grow. Do not cut the grass more than half down or you risk killing it. For the Barbapapa Pot Belly Garden, after several months, it is recommended that you transplant your Pot Belly Garden to the ground or a larger pot. Do this by digging a hole the size of the boot planter in the ground or in the potting soil of a pot. Carefully remove the plant from the boot planter. You might need to use a butter knife to help loosen the soil from the edges of the planter. You will see the root ball that has formed in the boot. Place it into the hole. You can reuse your Barbapapa as a unique container for paperclips, coins or other small items. What can I do to make my Barbapapa Pot Belly Garden grow faster and fuller? It is critical to prune your plant for best results and for the flowers to bloom. Do this by thinning your plant out after the seedlings have emerged. You need to have only a few hearty seedlings to produce results. Maintain your plant once it is growing by cutting any dry leaves from the bottom of the stem. When your plants are 8-10 inches tall, you can prune the top and they will grow fuller. The Barbapapa Grass Garden can be trimmed, but does not benefit from pruning like the Barbapapa Pot Belly Garden. Everything has been done to ensure your success in growing your Barbapapa— the product is manufactured to the highest standards using superior seeds and peat mixture. But the product is not guaranteed to grow. If it does not work at first, put some of the extra seeds into the planter and give it another try. Can I order Barbapapa in bulk for a special event? Possibly, for orders 144 units or more please call noted at 800-600-7216, or write to sales@notedco.com for US. If you are outside the USA, please email enquiry@notedco.com for our EU headquarters. What kind of grass will grow and is it cat grass? Like our Nyokki Pet Plants, the Barbapapa Grass Garden grows Rye Grass. Rye Grass is the same grass found in many lawns. This is NOT the same as cat grass (which is wheat grass) from the pet store, so do not feed it to pets and DO NOT EAT it. |
