How do I set up my Rainy Day Garden?

Remove all contents from the Rainy Day Garden boot. You will find two peat pucks and a packet of seeds inside, along with a small instruction sheet.

How do I grow plants in my Rainy Day Garden boot shaped planter?

Place the peat pucks inside the planter and add warm water halfway up the planter's boot shaped bowl. Let it sit five minutes to soften the dried peat. Take a fork and break up the peat pucks. Let it sit another five minutes to soften further, stir the peat soil, and add your seeds according to package insert directions.

What makes the Rainy Day Garden grow?

The magic of the Rainy Day Garden is the magic of mother nature. There is nothing “automatic” about the Rainy Day Garden. The Rainy Day Garden is just a clever boot shaped planter for starting seeds. It simply contains seeds and a dried potting mixture.

How long does it take to grow?

In general, seeds will germinate and sprout with herbs in 2 to 3 weeks and flowers in 3 to 4 weeks. Keep your Rainy Day Garden moist and warm during that time. Plants should be a good size in 2 to 3 months, when you can transplant them so that they can fully mature and the flowers can bloom.

What do I do if my Rainy Day Garden is not growing?

Just like in nature many factors play into seeds successfully germinating. At first, the two most important factors are warmth and water. It is very important that your Rainy Day Garden is placed in an environment with a temperature of 60 degrees or warmer (actually warmer is better, ideally 70 to 80 degrees is OK). Warmth triggers the seeds to start to germinate as if it is spring. If your Rainy Day Garden dries out, then the delicate germination process may be disrupted. Likewise, you should water judiciously, so that soil is just moist to the touch. Over-watering can also disrupt the germination process. Additional seeds can be planted if no sprouts are seen after 6 weeks.

How much Sunlight does my Rainy Day Garden need?

Once the seedling appears above the soil’s surface, your Rainy Day Garden should receive two to four hours of good sunlight each day. Before the seedling appears, it is not necessary to have full sunlight. In fact, it is best at that time to place the Rainy Day Garden somewhere with filtered or indirect sunlight.

How much water does my Rainy Day Garden need?

The thirsty Rainy Day Garden drinks a lot. Water it every day if the peat soil is dry to the touch. Do not drown the Rainy Day 'boot' Garden, however.

How long can my Rainy Day Garden last?

Your Rainy Day Garden will grow for 2 to 4 months (depending on conditions), after that it is recommended that you transplant your Rainy Day Garden to the ground or a larger pot. Do this by digging a hole the size of the boot planter in the ground or in the potting soil of a pot. Carefully remove the plant from the boot planter. You might need to use a butter knife to help loosen the soil from the edges of the planter. You will see the root ball that has formed in the boot. Place it into the hole. You can reuse your boot as a unique container for paperclips, coins or other small items. You can also grow more plants in it using potting soil and seeds from a garden supplier.

What can I do to make my Rainy Day Garden grow faster and fuller?

It is critical to prune your plant for best results and for the flowers to bloom. Do this by thinning your plant out after the seedlings have emerged. You need to have only a few hearty seedlings to produce results. Maintain your plant once it is growing by cutting any dry leaves from the bottom of the stem. When your plants are 8-10 inches tall, you can prune the top and they will grow fuller.

Is the Rainy Day Garden guaranteed?

Everything has been done to ensure your success in growing your Rainy Day Garden — the product is manufactured to the highest standards using superior seeds and peat mixture. But the product is not guaranteed to grow. If it does not work at first (after 6 weeks), put some extra seeds into the peat mixture and give it another try.
